Friday Afternoon Club

Community Living Alternatives, Inc. has always prided itself on going that extra step to help the people we serve feel included and accepted, however we never realized just how much more we could do. In 2006, we began implementing Essential Lifestyle Plans and began learning so much more about the dreams and interests of the people we serve. We felt we could make some, if not all, of these wistful dreams a reality. We began by simply talking about the things they have always wanted to do, or things that they really enjoyed but never got to do again. The resulting list was long and varied, but the CLA team recognized that month-by-month, we could make all of these things happen.

Thus, the Friday Afternoon Club was born! We have had great success and turn-outs to our events and activities. We’ve gone dog sledding, fished off a pontoon, created artistic masterpieces, ridden a horse drawn sleigh, traveled on the Georgetown Loop Railroad, been to baseball games, visited a wild animal sanctuary, had a luau, had picnics and a long list of others. We continue to receive requests and find new and exciting things to do.

Chinese New Year Celebration!
Meet at CLA @ 10am
Ring the New Years again and help us celebrate the Chinese New Year. Experience a tea pouring service and practice using chopsticks.  We will serve traditional Chinese foods, listen to some soothing Chinese music and create a paper lantern, Chinese umbrella or fan.  Please let Melissa know which item you would like to create, and your favorite color. Cost $30 Includes tea service, lunch and craft

Diwali Festival of Lights
Meet @ CLA at 10am
Please welcome our friend Latania, as she leads us through a refreshing and uplifting Laughter Yoga class.  You will exercise laughter muscles you didn’t know you had, then enjoy a delicious Indian meal of curries, saag, rice and naan.  We will also be serving a sweet Indian tea called Chai.  After you fill your belly, enjoy making a craft to honor the Indian Festival of Diwali.

Sewing/Textiles Class
Meet @ CLA at 10am
Enjoy making you very own “no-sew” fleece throw or stuffed animal.  We will have a bunch of projects to choose from, but please let Melissa know your preferences in colors and themes so you get your perfect match.  If you want to sew using a needle and thread, let us know, we can pick out projects for you to work on.  After you are finished with your new blanket or furry friend, enjoy a meal of soup, salad and breadsticks from our local Olive Garden.
Cost $40 Includes your choice of textile project and lunch.

Learn to make your own pizza…the Italian way

Don’t just put on your own toppings!  Learn from a true pizza maker how to toss your crust and spread tomato sauce on your pie. Then, pile on the good stuff and watch it bake.  Cost $25

Karaoke

Warm up your voices and sing your heart out at our first karaoke FAC!  Sing for as long as you like, and enjoy listening to others’ favorite tunes.  We will have a hearty lunch of typical “bar food”- chicken wings, nachos and sliders.  Each participant will receive an award for bravery, talent, uniqueness or favorite song. Soap Making Class

Join us in making your very own handmade soaps and body scrubs.  You may choose to add lemon zest, flowers, or orange slices as well as natural essential oils to your soap, or just add coloring for a simpler look. Either way, you are sure to leave with delicious smelling items for your bathroom. Great for soothing dry winter skin! We will help you package them, and design your own label.  Enjoy a favorite CLA staff lunch! Cost $30 Includes materials, lunch and instruction

Glamour Shots

This was such a fun event, we just had to do it again!  Get your hair styled, choose make-up colors to compliment you and pose for your best shot!  Please make sure your hair is clean, and you wear a fancy or favorite top!  Lunch will be shared with the stylists and photographer.  Enjoy Chinese chop chicken salad and croissants with butter. Cost: $35 Includes hair stylists, make-up artist, photographer, photographs and lunch

Dog Agility

Come watch a local dog agility team practice with their 4 legged partners.  Help put them through their routines and reward them with tasty dog treats.  We will snap pictures of you with your favorite dog so you can remember the day.   Enjoy an All American lunch of hot dogs, turkey dogs and potato salad at Mustard’s Last Stand.

Launch your own Rocket and BBQ

A brand new activity!  Spend time with your HHP building your own rocket!  We will help you pick out your kit and get it to you at least a month in advance.  Show off your project by launching it in front of all the CLA staff and your friends.  We will take pictures of your craft before and after.  If you don’t wish to launch a rocket, join us for the BBQ and paint a model rocket instead.
Cost: With Rocket $50, Without Rocket $30. Both costs include lunch and materials.

Wildflower or other mountain festival

Enjoy a beautiful Colorado day in the mountains celebrating the warm sunshine, music and tasty locally sourced foods.  We will plan on spending the whole day at the festival.  HHP’s are encouraged to attend and enjoy the day with us.  We will reserve a “home base” with a shade tent, picnic tables and plenty of sunscreen water and snacks in addition to lunch. Cost TBD but estimated at $40

Whitewater Rafting

Yes, I said it!  For all you brave hearts out there, try something to test yourself!  We will be guided over mostly class 1 and 2 rapids, but safely buckled into life vests.  Our guide will help us navigate the tougher spots of the river.  Relive the highlights over a water- side picnic lunch.

Aprons and Tie Dye!

How fun!  Make your very own personalized craft apron.  We will have iron on decals, lots of tie dye options, buttons and “bling” to make a completely unique apron for use at our FAC groups.  You can leave it here to ensure you have it for next time, or take it home for use with other projects.  Enjoy a taco bar lunch and flan dessert! Cost $25 Includes: apron, art supplies and lunch
